This is the best piece of Chinese silver we have ever come across. A very large figural group of a gate set on a very nice rosewood base. The gate comprises 4 circular columns with piercing, decorated flowers and 2 dragons. The dragons are wrapped around the 2 inner columns with the figural head of the dragons coming out facing in at the top of the 2 inner columns. The landing of the gate has a wonderful pierced railing decorated with bamboo leaves and dragons. The floor is engraved all over with flower heads and stippling work. There is a set of stairs on each side of the landing. On the landing are 4 horses in an upright position. There are also 8 figures of men and women in very nice attire. The top part of the gate has many different sections. 4 panels are screwed in decorated with a battle scene at the top, below this are 2 dragons writhing together. To the right and left of this panel are 2 wise men on separate panels. Both sides have the same panels. In between the 2 center panels hanging from the dragon heads on chains is a plaque with a piercing in the middle and enameled in whites and blues with silver tassels at the bottom. The whole gate with the base is removable from the rosewood base. Under the base the mark LC is engraved twice, I believe this is the maker mark. The rosewood under the silver shows a lot of age. The rosewood base mounted with 2 brass handles. The entire gate is gilded lightly. Very nice patina to the gilding. The silver is a very heavy 157 ounces. The silver gate is 23 inches high, with the rosewood base the height is 26 inches. The rosewood base is 20 inches long by 13 inches deep. This is a fabulous work of art. Excellent condition
