Exquisite figural Centerpiece by the well known English silversmith Stephen Smith hallmarked London 1868. The centerpiece is shaped oval in design with a 2 tier center shaft topped with a large figural cherub. Sitting on each side of the base are 2 large figural winged women. Two shell serving bowls are attached to the front and back of the base. The centerpiece is set up on 4 great paw feet with 2 lion heads right above the paw feet with fine acanthus leaf decoration surrounding the lions heads. The outside edge of the base has an applied pierced frieze featuring lionesses, masks, cornucopia, neo-classical urns & fruiting vines. The base of the center shaft has 2 applied curved silver pieces with a large bead decoration with a large rams head on each side. There are 2 circular tiered bowls on the center shaft. Topping the center shaft is a large figural cherub holding 2 fruit sprigs with leaves. There is a fine quality matte finish on the cherubs body. .Two shields are attached at the front and back of the piece with engraved crests. Overall this centerpiece is a great work of art. If you are looking for a showstopper for your table this piece qualifies. All pieces are hallmarked with the proper English hallmarks. A large piece at 25 inches long x 16 inches in depth and 35 inches high. Extra heavy weight. The piece is in excellent condition.
