Finest Japanese Silver And Enamel Tea Pot Meiji Period
The finest quality Japanese enamel piece we have seen in years. The tea pot is in a unique ovoid shape set on 4 feet with delicate spout and handle with a removable cover. Enamel work covers the whole piece. The body has 2 main panel that are separate pieces applied to the body. Each panel has a different scene. Each panel has 2 butterfly's and a profusion of different flowers that are all finely enameled in blues, greens, pinks, brown, purples, and orange. The cover is decorated in all enamel flowers with a separate figural butterfly as the finial. The work on the body is more like cloisonne. The are 2 enamel birds and 6 small butterfly's on the body along with all of the enamel flowers and tendrils. The spout is also finely decorated with a enamel bird and a butterfly along with the flowers and tendrils. The piece is marked on the inside rim of the cover with a French import. There is no makers mark on the piece. The piece is heavy at 8 troy ounces. Height is 4 3/4", handle to spout is 5 3/4". Meiji period circa 1890. Nice condition
