Pair of sterling silver figural salt and pepper shakers. Made in Germany and imported to Chester, England in 1909/10. The shakers are a peasant boy (salt) and girl (pepper). The girl wears a long dress and hat. The boy wears baggy trousers and hat. They are shod in wooden shoes. The girl looks defiant with arms folded. The boy lounges with hands in pockets. A realistic pair. No pastoral nostalgia here. Imported to England a few years before World War I. Hallmarked with import marks.
