Silver tea service with birds and blossoming branches. Made by HM in China for Western market, C 1900. This service comprises 1 tea kettle with hinged cover on stand, 1 teapot with hinged cover, 1 creamer, 1 sugar, 1 tea caddy with cover, and 1 waste bowl.
Tea caddy is ovoid with short and straight neck. Waste bowl is circular with curved sides and circular foot. All other pieces are squat and curved. Tea kettle and teapot have s-curve bamboo spouts. The creamer has a lip spout. All handles are bamboo scroll. The tea kettle handle is stationary. Stand is bamboo x-form with stretchers.

This service was acquired by an American naval officer in Shanghai at the turn of the century.
