Philadelphia Coin Silver Water Pitcher C 1860
Coin silver water pitcher. Made in Philadelphia, ca. 1850. Retailed by Mitchell & Tyler in Richmond, Va. Baluster body, circular and stepped foot, wide lip spout, and foliate scroll handle. Repousse flowers and foliage on body. Asymmetrical and curved rim with scrolls, foliage, and molding. Engraved monogram (JR) on front cartouche. Makerís marks associated with a Philadelphia silversmith. Retailerís mark for Mitchell & Tyler (fl. 1845-66).

A fine piece with historic provenance: Formerly in collection of Julia Russell, a descendant of Pony Express founder, William H. Russell. Excellent condition with delicate patina.
