Gilt sterling silver military frame. Made by Durgin in Providence, Rhode Island, ca. 1918. Frame is bordered by columns supporting broken arch. Next to oval window is an accumulation of arms and equipment including sword, rifle, and helmet. Surmounting the window is a wind-swept flag. Heroic but poignant. Hallmarked includes artist’s signature (M Fernandez). With glass and silk lining. On stained-wood mount with trefoil top and hinged support for vertical display.
