Japanese-style sterling silver youth set with marine ornament and honeycomb hand hammering. Made by Tiffany in New York, ca. 1879. This set comprises 1 baby cup (no. 5635), 1 porringer (no. 5515), and 1 plate (no. 5516). The cup is a beaker with curved and tapering sides. The porringer has a scalloped rim, curved sides, and tapering and pierced handle. The plate has a circular well and scalloped rim.
All pieces have applied and engraved marine ornament on allover hand-hammered honeycomb ground. The cup and plate have applied fish and sea grasses (cup has 3 fish and plate has 5 fish). The porringer has applied dragonfly and waterlilies.
The patterns were first produced in 1879. A fine example of Tiffany’s exploration of Asian and Craftsman motifs. Hallmarked. Excellent condition with good patina.
