Aesthetic sterling silver compote. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York ca 1882. Round and shallow bowl with lobed sides and flared rim mounted to concave stem on raised foot. Pell-mell blossoms contrasting with dense beading, suggestive of ball bearings. Wavy lines terminating in volute scrolls incised to bowl and foot. Dentil rim. Script monogram engraved in well center. Experimental with an industrial twang.
Hallmark includes pattern no. 7033 (first produced in 1882) and director’s letter M (1873-91). Rich patina and fine definition.
