|This is a truly magnificent museum quality sterling silver bowl, superbly decorated all around with a fabulous repousse design of sea shells in the Aesthetic style. The assorted shells include a variety of scallops, clam-shells and oysters and have been artfully set against a background of seaweed and organic marine motifs. Each has been rendered with such exquisite precision that every motif has an extraordinarily realistic appearance. The quality of the craftsmanship throughout is remarkable--each shell has been depicted with exceptional skill and has been exquisitely and meticulously detailed to the very highest standards. This is repousse work at its very finest and highest level of accomplishment. The bowl has a gently undulating surface and upper rim, subtly and cleverly invoking the motion of the sea. The interior has been finished with a light gold wash. The bowl is in excellent, pristine condition; the silver has a lovely soft and pleasing patina and the truly exceptional workmanship of the repousse work is clean and crisp with wonderful definition on all the decorative elements. The base of the bowl has been clearly stamped with a pattern number, the word Sterling and the identifying symbol and name of its maker, Whiting Manufacturing Co; together with the words New York. This wonderful bowl would be perfect for serving seafood and its presence on any dining table would transform the meal into a truly special occasion. It is a unique, one of a kind piece and is a "must-have" for any connoisseur of fine quality silver. It measures approx. 9 1/2" in diameter and stands approx. 4 3/4" high.|
