Victorian English London Sterling Silver Soup Tureen
$14,500.00

Victorian Sterling Silver Covered Soup Tureen by Robert Harper, London, 1865. Fully hallmarked on lid and body. The neoclassical style tureen engraved with an Earl’s Coat of Arms with the motto “non sibi sed patria (not for himself but for his country)”, probably that of Charles Marsham, the 4th Earl of Romney. This regal soup tureen is hand made with cast finial and two cast ram’s head handles. The interior exhibits evidence of fine hand hammering. This is truly a collector’s item, especially wince it comes with a traceable provenance. In the Adams style with large swags, bows and rams heads all typical decoration from the 18th century designer Robert Adam. Any silver collector would be lucky to have this beautiful and regal tureen grace his dining room table. Length: 16 inches. Height 12 inches. Depth 10 inches. Crest very finely engraved. Weight: 91 Troy Ounces. Condition: Excellent.
