Ross Sterling Turner Watercolor

Gorgeous watercolor by Ross Sterling Turner titled: "The Shoals." Titled on front, signed lower left. Also dated "Aug 81." Watercolor features piece of land jutting out into water. Nice shades of blue. Pleasant and calming image. Dimensions: 12" x 18" (unframed); 21.25" x 27.25" (framed). Ross Sterling Turner was born in New York but spent a portion of his life in Virginia. He went to Europe to study the Old Masters before returning to the United States to settle in Boston. He spent time with Childe Hassam and the artistic community associated with Celia Thaxter at Appledore. He also worked as a mechanical draftsman and taught in the Architecture Department at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Turner is a noted watercolorist of landscapes and marine scenes. His work exemplifies both realist and impressionist styles with attention to light and color. His work is is many private and public collections today.
