Portrait of Theodore Robinson by Lucy Booth

Pastel on paper portrait of Theodore Robinson by Lucy Hariot Booth (American, 1896-1952). Unsigned work from artist's estate. Drawing features Theodore Robinson seated in a chair gazing to one side. Nice and subtle use of color. Dimensions: 11.5" x 11" (unframed); 21.5" x 21.5" (framed). Theodore Robinson was born in Vermont and became one of the leading artists in the American Impressionism movement. He was also was one of the founders of The Art Students League in New York City. American Impressionist Lucy Hariot Booth attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She later studied at the Art Students League in New York where she made connections with several well-known American Impressionists. Booth studied under Carroll Beckwith and Willard Metcalf. During the 1890's, she worked under J. Alden Weir and became friends with he and his wife. She often visited the Weirs in Connecticut and became acquainted with other members of the Cos Cob Art Colony including John Henry Twachtman and Theodore Robinson. In 1895 Booth studied in Townshend, Vermont under Theodore Robinson. During that summer, Booth painted her finest landscapes which depicted the Vermont hills in both soft and vibrant hues of blue, green, tan, and pink.
