| Fine bronze depicting a racehorse with jockey atop titled "Vainqueur Du Derby" by Pierre Jules Mene (French, 1810-1879). The front leg is lifted slightly in walking pose. Signed on top of base "PJ Mene". Mounted to a later green marble base which has cracked. Nice dark patina. This statue was one of Mene's most popular racing studies, "The Derby Winner - Vainqueur Du Derby" is thought to represent the 1862 Derby Winner, Caractacus. In very good overall condition with perpendicular break in marble base (see pictures) but still attached. Dimensions: 15.25"h x 16"l. | |||||||||
