| Great vintage and colorful "Frank Jones Portsmouth Ales" advertising sign for ales from the Frank Jones Brewery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Great convex form of sturdy metal and enamel paint of vibrant orange and blue. Excellent advertising sign from a prolific New Hampshire institution with an important New Hampshire figure as founder. In very good overall condition with some restoration to enamel. Overall dimensions are 20"h x 18"w x 4"d. Frank Jones was born in Barrington, NH and became a very successful merchant, brewer, Mayor of Portsmouth and Democratic nominee for Governor of NH in 1880. The Frank Jones Brewery was one of the largest producers of ale in the United States of America. In 1896, the Portsmouth brewery produced about 250,000 barrels. In 1889, Jones put his company's stock on the market in London. Jones died in Portsmouth in 1902. In 1950, the Frank Jones Brewery closed after 90 years of brewing. | |||||
