This is a stunning pair of unusually large armchairs from the middle part of the 19th century made from a lovely patinaed walnut and highlighted with gilt lines. Each of this massive and comfortable armchair is boasting a impressive embellishment from the intricate upper cartouche depicting foliate and fruits to the frame below beautifully accented with the classical Louis XVI patterns from the raie de cour design and twisted ribbon carving to the boldly and detailed acanthus leaves decorating the pair of padded armrests. The back of each of these armchairs is slightly scrolled showing the impressive skills of the craftsman that built this pair. The pediment is indeed consisting of the typical tapered fluted legs. The floral upholstery is in used condition and would need to be replaced. Minor scratches and dents can be seen here and there due to the age. Circa date 1850. Dimensions 42”high/ 16”seat height/ 34”wide/ 23”deep. | |||||||||||
