This is a rare and exquisite Rafraichissoir (Cooler), typical from Paris, made by the second half of the 19th century during the reign of Napoleon III, combining rosewood and mahogany veneers for a beautiful result. Today while you can still use such item for its original purpose, most people used them as planters. This lovely antique is elegantly accented with inlaid floral patterns and cast bronze ormolus from the upper belt to the base below. Note the zinc compartments are not original and were replaced by the previous owner. Minor scratches and dents can be seen here and there due to the age. Circa date 1860. Dimensions 29 ½”high/ 31”diameter.
