This is a beautiful primitive Buffet made from solid oak during the reign of the Sun King Louis XIV (5 September 1638 – 1 September 1715) by the second half of the 17th century. This impressive and massive piece of history is originally coming from Franche-Comté, a former administrative region of eastern France, Franche-Comté was captured by France in 1668, but returned to Spain under the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle. It was conquered a second time in 1674, and finally was ceded to France in the Treaty of Nijmegen (1678). This large Buffet is typical from this period with its elegantly simple frame with straight lines and its pair of diamond point doors, all made from very thick wood, no drawers but a very large storage area, which is an indication this piece belonged to someone from the working class. Hinges and escutcheons, as well as the small latch holding the left door, are in original condition, the lock is from the end of the 18th century, while the key is a recent but working replacement. The wooden knob on the latch is not original and believed to be from the end of the 19th century. The shelves have been replaced for sturdiness. Several scratches, marks, dents, cracks can be seen all around this over three hundred years old item, due evidently, to the age. Do not hesitate to ask additional pictures and video. Circa date 1670. Dimensions 37"high/ 61"wide/ 26"deep.
