| This extremely rare hard to find Ko-Imari/Arita Van Frytom Exotic Teabowl, has a thick wide band at the interior and exterior rims, the inner of the bowl decorated in underglaze blue with a prancing deer in a landscape, the exterior with a horseman and figures in a lush landscape in a pseudo European style in an attempt by the Arita kilns to copy Dutch delft designs. As per an almost identical dish in the famous Burghley House Collection, England, catalog page 166, Item 58, the exotic teabowl is nearly similar to the one in that collection,it’s shape and dimensions are as stated in the photo showing, which are approximately Height 4 cm and Diameter 7.5 cm. The underside has the typical spurious six character Cheng-Hua mark, not correctly written, and small spur marks commensurate with the period. In excellent condition. EDO/GENROKU PERIOD, c. 1690. PHOTO EXCEPTIONS- The hair like look at the base of the piece was because of the black photo cloth, and does not appear on the piece. Also, there is no yellow coloration on the teabowl as that is photo glare/distortion. See attached photo of the Burghley House Collection Teabowl in Devonshire, England.
