| RARE FIRST EDITION. Published by Sampson Low, Marston & Company, Ltd, London. HARDBOUND, scenic board on front and bound on spine, corners, and back. Library label on inside front cover. Comprising of the following essay numbers: 8, 9, 10, 12, and 19-26 of 36 original essays. Title sheet claims 120 plates, with approximately 54 in color and the rest in black and white or single color, several double fold out print plates, and numerous small accent illustration. English Text. Condition: First 3 title pages are together but loose from the binding, small amount of foxing, some tanning of the pages, the exterior worn on the edges, and approximately a 2 inch rip on the spine (see photo), but otherwise in good condition given its age and use. This extremely difficult book to find covers many areas of Japanese art including prints, paintings, bronzes, combs, ceramics, etc. A very interesting and excellent addition to a collector or dealer’s library.
