| 19th Century Belgian artist Ferdinand Wilhelm Pauwels (1830-1904) signed oil on oak board. This Barbizon-style painting measures 24" X 18" Framed. Pauwels has very few paintings in existence comparatively to other listed artist of this period. Often the scarcity of an artist work by definition, can elevate in years the value of those paintings were in circulation. Signature lower right quadrant (F. Pauwels), prominent and legible. Wood frame is completely gilded with detailed scrollwork, double-beaded border. Noted is minor gilt wear to corners can be retouched. Verso reveals frame nails, these are intact and secure. Certain focal areas (brush strokes) of the painting (trees, foilage) elude to a reminiscence of the impressionism era. | ||
