An Ogre Kachina is carved in the traditional style as a flat doll by Hopi Indian artist Dean Howato, son of Walter Howato. Dean was inspired by the Goldwater Collection and re-created a tihu from page 47 of the book. Dean carved and painted Kachinas with his father for over thirty years and has a similar style, yet his own touches. This cottonwood root carving is very simple, yet the tab ear is tied on with string and the feathers have been aged. The paint is deliberately distressed. The Kachina Mana 5 1/2" talland is unsigned.
