Classic Hopi Migration jar by Elva Nampeyo, traditionally made by a daughter of a family of fine potters from the Tewa village of Hano. Elva, daughter of Fannie and granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano, mother of Miriam, Elton and Adelle. We have pieces from a collection that includes this branch of the family tree. This wonderful jar, 4 3/4" tall 7 1/2" diameter, is beautifully shaped with the graceful curving out neck. Fannie perfected the Migration design which everyone in the whole family uses. The balance of the ten "bat wings" top and bottom are perfect and the spacing of the fine parallel lines is accurate. If it wasn't signed Elva Nampeyo we would assume it was crafted and painted by Fannie! Perfect original condition, circa 1970-80. Lovely deep golden firing color with no burn marks. Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance. |
