Fannie Nampeyo Hopi Migration Jar
Classic Hopi Migration jar by Fannie Nampeyo, b.1900-d.1987, traditionally made by the Matriarch of a family of fine potters from the Tewa village of Hano. Fannie was the youngest of the daughters of Nampeyo of Hano and is mother of Elva, grandmother of Miriam, Elton and Adelle. We have pieces from a collection that includes this branch of the family tree.

Fannie worked with Nampeyo whose eye sight was failing, painting some and learning to craft a fine shape.

This small jar, 4" tall 6" diameter, is beautifully shaped with the graceful curving out neck. Fannie perfected the Migration design which everyone in the whole family uses. The balance of the seven "bat wings" top and bottom are perfect and the spacing of the fine parallel lines is accurate.

Perfect original condition, circa 1960-70s, you will notice some of the dark brown bee plant paint is missing. This is oxidation of the paint, it evaporates over time, there is no wear involved. We also see this in Maricopa pottery.

Lovely golden firing color with no burn marks.

Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance.
