Globular pottery bowl by Maricopa Indian artist Grace Monahan stands 4 3/4" tall and is 6 1/2" diameter. Traditionally hand crafted from native clay with the paddle and anvil method, iron oxide red slip is decorated with black mesquite sap paint, pit fired. Grace Monahan, d.1973, was a contemporary of Ida Redbird, Mary Juan and Vesta Bread, all involved with the pottery revival of the 1930s. We see less of her pottery than any of the others. This lovely bowl is in fine original condition, purchased from Grace in about 1970. Buyer pays $15.00 for shipping and insurance. |
