Transitional era, 1890s, Navajo Indian textile woven with all native wool, handspun and dyed, aniline blue, red and orange, natural white and black.
The severe diagonal elements were created by manipulating the warps, consequently the sides are undulating, giving this piece lots of kinetic energy.
49" by 58", Excellent condition, minor restoration to the selvedges.
Wedge weaves are an oddity of Navajo weaving arts, they never caught on in a big way as they were very difficult to make and hard on the warps.
