Marie and Julian Martinez Pottery Bowl

Small black pottery bowl by the famous Marie and Julian Martinez of San Ildefonso Pueblo, circa 1930s.

3" deep by 6 1/4" diameter, signed. There is a pop out from the clay, this is original to the making of the piece.

Traditionally hand coiled with native clay and stone burnished by Maria, then reverse slip decorated by Julian. Pit fired in a reducing fire to black.

Fluid design appears to be wind blowing. The surface is almost gunmetal, the shape is elegant. A fine small example of Maria pottery!

Two old post cards are included, the one is hand signed by Marie!

From the estate of Orpha MacPherson, read about this interesting woman in our blog.

Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance.
