After 40 years in this business I have finally seen something new in Indian art! Yet it is old, circa 1930-50. A tobacco humidor! Very nicely built with native clay, stone burnished and pit fired to black in the traditional manner at Santa Clara Pueblo. The lid sports a pipe carved of clay! Inside the lid is the original sponge that would be wetted to provide humidity for the tobacco. The jar is 5 1/2" diameter by 3 3/4" tall, the lid (with a 3/4" long chip) is5 3/4" diameter by 2 1/2" tall. Unsigned. From a fine local collection of Indian pottery and folk art. buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance. |
