The classic black on black plate by the famous Indian potter Maria Martinez and her son Popovi Da of San Ildefonso Pueblo. The feather design reverse painted on a highly polished gun metal fired surface is one of the best known of theirs. When Maria worked with Popovi during the 1950s and 60s, they achieved some of the finest art pottery of Maria's long career. 11 3/4" diameter, all original condition with no damage or restoration. Signed by both with no firing date, which places it in the early 1950s. This is a fine addition to any serious collection of Pueblo Indian pottery by the most famous of all Indian artists Maria Martinez, b.1887-d.1980, and Popovi Da, b.1922-d.1971.
