Exceptional Sgrafitto Jar by Haungooah
A magnificent lidded red pottery jar by Kiowa Indian artist Art Cody Haungooah features a Persian turquoise knob and a row of fine heishe.

The sgrafitto carved walking Avanyu encircles the jar, note its unique eye. Enhanced with rain clouds and lightning arrows.

4 1/2" diameter by 5" tall. Dated 8 3 74, signed Haungooah.

Engraved on the base is a Tewa poem: Within and around the earth Within and around the hills Within and around the mountain Your authority returns to you.

Haungooah was the grandson of a famous Kiowa scout who was known for his ledger drawings.

Art Cody, Haungooah changed his signature many times. He was one of the early potters to explore the sgrafitto carving method, along side Joseph Lonewolf, TsePe Gonzales and Tony Da.

Unfortunately Haungooah met a tragic end in the mid 1980s. This impressive piece is a fine legacy of his creativity and artistry!

Buyer pays $25.00 for shipping and insurance.
