Very modern styling of this simple pottery vase is a mark of Elizabeth White's genius.
Polingaysi, lived away from the Hopi Reservation all her life until she returned after her retirement. Then she took up pottery making and became famous for the minimal shapes and smooth burnishing of the softly colored peach clay.
Usuall embellished with ears of corn, but not painted, this little vase is a fine example of her craftmsanship.
4 3/4" tall by 4" diameter, fine original condition.
Elizabeth White was honored many times including 1984, Arizona Indian Living Treasure, 1991 Arizona Women's Hall of Fame.
B. 1884-D 1990. She was the aunt and teacher of Al Quoyawayma, another fine artist!
