Traditionally hand crafted Hopi pottery by Rachel Healing Nampeyo, 1900-1985.
Rachel, daughter of Annie, mother of Dextra and Priscilla, was raised along side Fannie, who shared the same birth year. All are amazing artisans of the traditional pottery making.
This small flat shoulder jar was purchased from Rachel in 1958, see the Polaroid taken at the time.
Traditionally hand built with native clay, stone burnished and painted with bee plant in the Nampeyo family design with Migration and bat wings. The out door firing happened with a little wind involved as there is a warmer orange side.
6" diameter by 3" tall, no chips or cracks, some surface wear from handling.
