Traditional kachina tihu is carved from dried cottonwood root by Hopi Indian artist Fred Ross. Fred is a featured artist in Jonathan Day's book on traditional Hopi Kachina carvers. The flat doll is the first type of Kachina given to the youngest Hopi girls, note the simply painted body with only the face being detailed.
