In one of my favorite pre-1948 Mexican silver designs, this fruit-and leaf necklace and earrings set is impeccably made and has an almost true-to-life quality. Sometimes signed by maker but quite often not, this specific design can be found in mixed metals as well and it never fails to attract the eye with the luscious curves of its fruit and the deep veining and serrated edges of its leaves...

Sweet vintage Victoria / Cony Mexican sterling silver bracelet, its curved links featuring glisterning berries and heart-shaped leaves, perfect for that young collector you want to cultivate and the ideal piece to brighten your work day. One of the few known Taxco females, Ana Maria Nunez de Brilanti signed her jewelry both as Victoria and as Cony and her descendants keep producing her designs even today...

Vintage Gerardo Lopez spectacular pectoral necklace wrought in the maestro's favorite 980 alloy, this is often referred to as the "lotus" design with subtle references to the Egyptian Revival of the Deco period. Superbly crafted, a necklace that wears like a dream and sweeps you away, it has a wearable length of 17" which makes it comfortable for most of us. The pectoral part is 5 1/8" wide and its total drop 4" while the chain reaches a width of 5/8"...

Superb Los Castillo necklace and bracelet set in one of their pre-Colombian swirl designs, the construction of both pieces with their riveted links make them a pleasure to wear. This is a demi that lends itself to be easily converted in a longer necklace, if its two components are put together so you are, in fact, getting three pieces in one! The necklace measures a wearable 17" long (once clasped, it becomes a little roomier at 17 1/4") while the bracelet is 7" wearable (7 1/4" once clasped)...

A maestro whose work does not come up often yet whose jewelry can be exceptional in design and craftsmanship, Lico is listed but details of his life still elude us. I have had a few of his jewelry over the years and I can say that his repoussage is stunning and his creations boast eye-catching proportions...

Early and substantial, a William Spratling cuff bracelet wrought in 980 silver in the "Nahui Ollin" or "Four Movements" design pictured in Penny Morrill's, Maestros de Plata, on p. 60. In the book the variation shown has amethyst cabs while here the example is all-silver. This is a bold and beautiful piece, with deep hand-etched, dramatically oxidized designs and generously sized flattened repousse domes...

Early Mexican Deco repousse silver necklace in a design closely associated with Matilde Poulat, I believe this piece to have been made in Mexico City where Matl worked as well and it bears the signature of a listed maker about whom we don't really know much more. Nicely made, with good sculpturality in the graduated rose links and a hefty, hand-wrought chain that helps adjust the necklace's length, this is a beautiful example of repoussage from the opening decades of the 20th c....

Unusual in its combination of figural and luscious floral links this is an early Deco Flli Peruzzi Italian silver bracelet, possibly a memento of a young lady's Grand Tour of Europe. Famous for their Renaissance Revival jewelry, the Peruzzi Bros are one of the oldest jewelers in Italy and still in operation today yet it is their vintage pieces that are avidly sought after...

Having worked as early as at least the middle Taxco period, maestro Morales is known for his high quality jewelry in the style of Matilde Poulat. The cross pendant necklace I am presenting here is from the post-1980 period yet retains the attention to workmanship, materials and finishing that his earlier pieces are collected for. And the fact that it comes with its original, heavy chain dating in the same period as the pendant is an added bonus...

A stunner of a bracelet, this piece is one of the best in the "buckle" genre I have seen not so much for its ornamentation but because of its magnificent proportions and the heftiness of its applique elements. Generously wide, it has a "frame-and-double-prong" shape with channel-set beading, oxidation and twist-rope accents. Enhanced by the wonderful patina it has acquired, the bracelet's layered construction makes a strong visual impression...

Gerardo Lopez of Taxco is known for his masterful repousse and I think the necklace at hand is his most stupendous pectoral creation! Wrought out of fine, 980 grade silver its twists and twirls impart an unsurpassable sense of dynamic flow to the design. The metal’s high purity allows for a mellower patina that glows warmly and bespeaks the necklace’s rich life...

Like ripples in tranquil water, the undulating repousse scrollwork in the Gerardo Lopez necklace presented here are wrought in 980 silver and have an airiness that makes this one of the most easy to wear, versatile pectorals I have seen. Maestro Lopez's magical hand is at work here and you can see it in the immaculate finishing, the perfection in the design's execution and the overall sense of calm, uninterrupted flow that emanates from it...

One of my favorite Teran necklaces, this is a very difficult to find design and in my opinion, one of Salvador's most brilliant moments. Stunningly beautiful, it has a presence that will never go unnoticed with the raw green stones sparkling against the wonderful patina of their three-dimensional frames. Strung on lengths of sterling wire, the asymmetrical links sit perfectly around the neck and feel as comfortable as silk...

Visually impressive and just a pleasure to wear, a vintage Los Castillo necklace in a festoon with teardrop dangles design that transforms from beautiful to spectacular as soon as you try it on! Drawing on the Spanish Colonial tradition, its festoon feels like it’s part of you and though the necklace has good weight, its airy configuration prevents it from becoming overwhelming...

Wrought in .940 silver and with a big onyx cabochon forming its body, a vintage Hector Aguilar brooch in the shape of a pelican. The combination of repoussage and chasing and the stark contrast between the black depths of the stone and the warmly glowing silver is what makes this piece irresistibly attractive. Measuring 2 3/8" tall by 2 1/8" wide (at its widest) the bird weighs 23.1 grams and is signed with a combination of hallmarks that dates it in the 1953-62 period. In excellent vintage co...

Early 20th c. Chinese silver filigree bracelet, this example has a beautifully mellowed vermeil finish and is profusely decorated with wire-work and enamel. Its four amethyst cabochons are enchantingly transparent and so light in color, they resemble lavender ice. The bracelet has an inner circumference of 7" (clasped) and its width varies between 15/16" and 7/16". It weighs 52.6 grams and it simply marked "SILVER". It dates in the 1920s-40s and is in excellent vintage condition with no losses i...

In the style closely associated with the Peruzzi Bros, a Deco silver bracelet, its generously wide links in the shape of mirrored dragons bearing ornate crowns. Though not hallmarked, this is an undoubtedly Italian piece with beautiful casting that allows the detail to come through effortlessly and a warmly glowing patina that renders the design more dramatic. The bracelet is 7" long (wearable; actual length is 7 3/4") by 2 3/16" wide and weighs 54.2 grams. It is not marked yet tests as silver...
