Strong presence with its unusual square face and richly colored stones make this vintage Deco Matl-esque ring a feast for the eyes; both those of the beholder as well as those of the bearer. Adorned with a pyramid-cut amethyst and channel-set coral and turquoise cabs its shank is embellished with the familiar wirework and twist-rope accents. Deep oxidation helps bring the color of the stones out and creates the character of this piece...

For the lovers of vintage Mexican silver jewelry who are also lovers of equines, a gorgeous set of Margot de Taxco sterling repousse cufflinks in the shape of a horse head. I find the animal's portrait majestic - the way it holds its head allows its strength and beauty to come out in the best possible way. Each cufflink is 1 1/8" tall by 7/8" wide and the set weighs 10.8 grams. It is fully signed with Margot's name as well as with a badly stamped Eagle mark and des. no 5160...

Matching the "Toro" cuff bracelet that is also currently available at One Good Eye Silver a pair of crazy, bold dangle earrings bearing the signature of Casa Maya. Hanging off the enameled in hues of green bull face are copper cones, elongated and quite impressive. The earrings measure 2 1/8" long and 1 1/16" wide. They are signed "MEXICO" but the matching bracelet also bears the classic impressed Maya logo. In excellent vintage condition with very good patina...

Quintessentially Deco both in design as well as in their stellar combination of silver and black onyx this is a superb set of Mexican dangle earrings! Overlay and dark oxidation make for the architectural half-moons that hold the teardrop black onyx dangles - elegant, classy yet so daring and mysterious at the same time. The earrings are 2 7/16" long by approx. 1/2" wide (at their widest) and the set weighs 11.5 grams...

Emulating one of Enrique Ledesma's well-known mod designs characterized by the abstract, almost biomorphic silver appliques on oxidized sterling backgrounds the hinged bracelet offered here was made in Taxco during the time Sigi was active but is signed by one of his contemporaries about whom not much is known. High quality workmanship, mint oxidation - as if this piece was never worn or was taken care of really really well - and a warmly glowing abstract design at the center of its face make...

Classic Casa Maya necklace - and so Carmen Miranda! - from their metals and green enamels line (in my opinion, the most innovative of their designs and just so much fun). Oftentimes referred to as "The Kiss", the design features two mirrored pre-Colombian heads, one in hand-hammer copper, the second in brass, with elaborate hairdos accented by green enamels...

Beautifully cast sterling silver links with exceptionally careful finishing make up this vintage Alfredo Villasana necklace. Having worked for both Spratling and Aguilar, Villasana is not among the "big" names of Mexican silversmiths yet I love his work because it always displays a good sense of design, is always well-crafted and has good weight to it. The necklace at hand is an early, pre-1948 example of Villasana's jewelry and to me its links look like hearts made of feathers and scrolls...

Not very frequently coming up this is a fun Antonio Pineda ring, which I would date in the 1960s! I have never come upon this design before but I think it is related to the gorgeous silver and pearls "Knot" necklace pictured on p. 190 of "Silver Seduction", the catalogue to Pineda's big retrospective exhibition at UCLA's Fowler Museum in 2008/09. I find the complicated, thick wire knots on the face very intriguing and definitely different...

A fun necklace made in the pre-1948 period with exceptional casting and beautifully hand-chased details in its design. I tend to think of the fruit as pears and they have an almost true-to-life feel about them! The necklace is a wearable 15 1/4" long but it will come to you with a sterling silver extender, which will add up to 3 3/8" to its length, if needed. Each link is 1" wide and the piece's weight registers at 72.7 grams (including the extender)...

Alfredo Villasana's repousse, especially in his clamper bracelets, is among the strongest I have seen in vintage Mexican silver jewelry. Having worked for Spratling and Aguilar he developed the skills and design sensitivity that allowed him to create some of the most eye-catching clampers characterized by their robust presence and their high craftsmanship...

The second figural Graziella Laffi brooch currently in my inventory (please also refer to Troc item #1090959) this piece is really impressive and quite unusual. I believe that here too we are dealing with the representation of an ancient Inca god, shown with snakes around his waist and in his headgear. The deity's garb is made of thick silver overlay to add dimension and depth to the design, both qualities intensified by oxidation and carefully hand-chased details...

Stupendous pair of Taxco sterling silver earrings in the shape of dangling crosses made up of thick "x"s with curled ends. I have never seen a more massive set and let me assure you that the visual impact is beyond description. Each earring is 1 7/8" long by 1 1/16" wide (at its widest) and the pair's weight registers at 24.4 grams. They are signed with maker's initials "AJ" which can also be found on Bernice Goodspeed pieces as well as "TAXCO MEXICO 925" and bear Eagle 3 assay mark...

Exceptional early Deco Taxco silver bracelet, its two parts formed by rows of repousse semi-spheres accented with green turquoise cabochons. This is one of my favorite forms in an exuberant design that never fails to attract attention. Bracelets like this come in a variety of widths – this one is, I believe, the widest you can get with eight rows of beads that, in the front panel, are enhanced by overlaid rows of stone and smaller beads. An iconic Mexican “statement” piece it measures 7...

Beautiful Matl hand-mirror with ornate scroll work around the oval "looking glass" and bezel set turquoise cabs. The teardrop repousse handle has exquisite patina as does the whole piece. A veritable Matilde treasure and an example of her work I have never had before. The mirror measures 4 1/2" tall by 2 1/2" wide (at its widest). It weighs 32.7 grams and is signed "MATL MEXICO 925 SALAS". I believe it's a 1940s-50s piece and it is in excellent vintage condition with the glass showing expect...

Stunning Matl-Salas sterling silver Palomas combination pin/pendant with meticulously worked repoussage and coral, amethyst and turquoise jewels. One of the most impressive pieces I have seen, its quality makes me think that it's an early 1980s example and its size just has me dazzled. I have paired it with an earlier, handwrought Mexican chain with elaborate links and appropriate length for such a stupendous pendant - the result is, to my eyes at least - beyond words... Wear it alone or combine...

Jose Luis Flores for Miguel mod sterling silver bracelet - to my eyes, its links look like a stylized flatfish and I love the patina that makes the intricate silverwork of the design more distinct and three-dimensional. The bracelet measures just shy of 6 3/4" long (wearable) by 1 1/8" wide and it weighs 43.9 grams. It is fully signed with both Miguel's initial in script as well as Jose Luis Flores's initials and bears Eagle 3 assay number. Dating in the 1950s-60s era and in excellent vintage ...
