An iconic modernist motif for Mexican silver jewelry, the "fish bone" or "skeleton" seems to have inspired "big names" (Antonio Pineda and the Los Castillo being among them) and less known yet talented maestros alike. I have seen it all in silver and with stone inlay but I have never had an enameled example before. Yet here it is - electric blue champleve enamel in perfect condition; just the color you want to wear when you go to the beach this upcoming summer...

I have only had a few pieces by RafMex over the years and was happily surprised to find their signature on the necklace and bracelet demi presented here. This is the perfect set for that romantic soul who appreciates Mexican jewelry for its quality and craftsmanship but shies away from big, bold pieces. Delicate and elegantly feminine, the repousse floral links have mellowed beautifully over the years and the two pieces look gorgeous together...

I have seen this design by Margot de Taxco before - it can be found in all silver as well as adorned with amethyst or art glass cabochons in addition to the silver and copper combination - but I had never had a ring from this line in the past. I am partial to the marrying of the two metals as it is and in this case, the complexity of the repousse with its beading and undulating tendrils and the warm glow of beautifully patinated copper make for a stunning piece...

An early emulation of Spratling's iconic "Cocos" design, the demi presented here is an assembled set but the necklace and bracelet look so good together they make you feel they started their life in the same taller as well. Made out of heavy gauge silver sheet both pieces are carefully crafted and have substantial presence - I particularly love the double "pulsera", a treat that doesn't come up very often...

Enjoying an almost universal appeal,
Etruscan style jewelry are characterized by the profusion of tiny silver beaded florets that adorn them and have been in production for centuries.
Found all around the Mediterranean, they were also made in Mexico and I consider them among my favorite sub-genres of Taxco design.
The bracelet I am presenting here has a big sterling ball studded with florets for a charm and its chain is formed by floret-ed drums.
The bracelet measures 8 1/2" long (yet d...

One of the most accomplished Taxco maestros, Miguel Melendez ranks high among my favorite mod designers, his creations successfully combining minimalist motifs with exceptional craftsmanship and gorgeous, faceted gems. The hinged bracelet at hand is adorned with three prong-set amethysts, the stems upon which they rest rising above stylized sterling leaves...

What is there to be said about this Villasana clamper that a careful look at the photos won't reveal in the most detailed, decidedly direct and breath-taking way? Sometimes I just feel that a picture is indeed worth a thousand words...
Undoubtedly one of Villasana's most ornate bracelets, this one betrays an almost Art Nouveau-ish influence with its elaborate repoussage flowing in all directions...

A book piece and one of the most impressive designs in Sigi Pineda's "boomerang" line this bracelet is adorned with a wire-wrapped, polished tiger's eye gem - I have seen it with amethyst and chrysoprase as well as with black onyx and have one of the latter in my inventory presently (just look for item no 1108655 here on Troc!).
One of the two big maestros of Mexican modernist design, Sigi loves the way oxidized surfaces stand out against the warm glow of silver and he definitely illustrates ...

Antonio Pineda's work needs hardly be introduced to the lovers of vintage Mexican silver jewelry. One of - if not the - most innovative designers of the country's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, his pieces are monumental, daring and simply perfect.
The "thumbprint" bracelet at hand is one of his iconic "book-pieces". Substantial in proprotions and weight, it still remains comfortable to wear and hugs the wrist in the most intimate of ways...

With its beginnings in 1911, in Providence, Rhode Island, the Uncas Manufacturing Company is known for its high quality rings. The Deco example presented here shows how inventive the company was in its combination of materials and geometric designs.
A stunning oblong, tiered sterling silver face with all the bells and whistles of a Deco ring is studded with glistening marcasites. The little stones surround a domed rectangular agate (I believe) with saturated blues, greens and brows...

Signed Ed Wiener sterling silver cuff bracelet in an adstract design resting on angularity and oxidation.
This is one of the best modernist pieces I have had - I cannot describe the sense of flow it exudes and the perfect way in which the piece's geometry comes together.
It is also a published piece (see Milton W. Brown and Blanche R. Brown, Jewelry by Ed Wiener, p...
