Possibly Gerardo Lopez's best repousse necklace, the twists and twirls in this piece exude a fantastic sense of flow and motion that reflects the light in a myriad of surprising ways. An iconic Hector Aguilar design the "Old Maguey" makes for a monumental bracelet - its strong, ancient lines carved into thick gauge sterling silver exert an irresistible primordial attraction and when you have it on, it feels divinely heavy and incredibly "familiar". This is one of my favorite Aguilar designs and I wish it were a little smaller so that I could enjoy it while it's in my possession! The bracelet measures just above 7 1/8" in wearable length and it is 1 1/8" wide...

Antonio Pineda's work needs hardly be introduced to the lovers of vintage Mexican silver jewelry. One of - if not the - most innovative designers of the country's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, his pieces are monumental, daring and simply perfect. The "thumbprint" bracelet at hand is one of his iconic "book-pieces". Substantial in proprotions and weight, it still remains comfortable to wear and hugs the wrist in the most intimate of ways...

Housing a massive green stone, which I believe is chrysoprase, the early 20th c. Chinese bracelet presented here has a vermeil finish over the silver filigree that has darkened beautifully over the years. The stone in this piece is so big and its contour so interestingly irregular that the central link holding it had to be accordingly shaped! Around it there is a profusion of stylized "Shu" characters, bats, clouds and eternity knots executed in purple and blue enamels...

Pectoral necklaces are, in my opinion. one of the most stunning forms in vintage Mexican silver jewelry and I count Gerardo Lopez as one of the best maestros who applied themselves to making them. Though there is not much information on him in the extant literature (at least of what I have seen), I suspect that he must have had some kind of association with the Los Castillo taller and/or Margot de Taxco...

I find Margot de Taxco's pectoral necklaces mesmerizing - their repousse is flawless, the design so strong and the sense of movement it creates brings the silver to life! I like to call the design here "cornucopia" because its elements remind me of the mythological "horn of plenty" that is also associated with our Thanksgiving holiday. Very easy to wear, feels perfect around the neck and is characterized by all the attributes that make Margot's jewelry so unique...

In my opinion the best Mexican modernist designer, Salvador Teran was a maestro of many talents and created some of the most striking pieces of Taxco jewelry. Offered here is his signature "Moon and Star" bracelet, which aptly demonstrates his ability to create exceptional minimalist pieces. The bracelet has an inner circumference of 6 1/2" and is ideal for smaller to medium wrists. Its face is approx. 1 3/4" square and the width of the two "wings" tapers from 1" to 3/4"...

An early Deco Mexican silver bracelet, most probably out of Mexico City, and very much in the style that came to be associated with Matilde Poulat's designs. In fact, this is a variation of Matl's very difficult to find "Moth" design and a very well crafted piece at that. Instead of repousse the links here are cast in .900 silver making for a quite substantial piece that feels divine around the wrist...

A rarely surfacing example of Margot de Taxco's distinctive brooches in which she combined silver with faceted gems and carved ivory figurines the piece presented here is true museum quality and a must-have for the serious Margot collector. To me it looks more like a work of art, something that you would proudly display among your most precious antiques, than merely a piece of jewelry...

An early design by the Los Castillo taller, the fish skeleton is considered a classic and has seen many emulations and reproductions over the years. The hinged bracelet at hand combines silver and copper in what I suspect must have been a custom piece - because it is intended for small wrists only (mine is 5 3/4" at the wrist bone and the bracelet fits me perfectly with the fish face resting on the wrist bone)...
