Like scales on the body of a big serpent, the links in this early Mexican Deco repousse bracelet are graduated in size and at the center front embrace an almost quatrefoil medallion with a bezel set oval cabochon - unpolished green agate maybe? Possibly a Mexico City piece, it bears strong resemblance to Matilde Poulat's primordial repoussage - the same powerful presence, the same turn to ancient pre-Colombian motifs for inspiration. The bracelet is 7 3/4" long (wearable) and its width var...

A classic design in the vocabulary of early Deco Mexican silversmiths, the floral links that comprise this necklace consist of repousse heart-shaped petals in two rows and are centered by black glass cabochons. I have never seen this design in any of the forms it comes bearing a maker's signature. Whether it's a necklace, a brooch, earrings or a bracelet, these pieces are always simply marked for metal content and origin - like here...

Early Mexican Deco silver repousse brooch in the Mexico City style, which is very reminiscent of Matilde Poulat's techniques. This type of jewelry was hand-wrought in the country's capital before the Taxco Renaissance, is usually marked "MEXICO SILVER" and is becoming highly sought after today because of its early date, bold designs and good craftsmanship. The repousse on this butterfly is truly pronounced and parts of its body are textured as well...

Though usually when we think about vintage Mexican silver jewelry we also think of Taxco or Mexico City, it is true that there were other centers of beautiful jewelry production in the country and Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco was one of them...

One of my favorite makers of zodiac charm bracelets, the maestro who created this piece is still unidentified but signs his pieces with initials "LC" as well as with a crown hallmark. I love this creations for their weight, careful finishing work and the architecturality of the open "pillow" links that form the chain. I recently sold an example by him with abalone inlay in each charm - this bracelet here has overlay charms with the astrological signs heavily oxidized...

Copying Hector Aguilar's early "pre-Colombian" design an old Taxco bracelet wrought in 980 silver with great patina, good weight and an endearing naivete in its execution. There is a warm earthiness about this design and the bracelet is so comfortable to wear. It measures 7 1/2" long (wearable; its total length is 7 7/8") by 1" wide and is 38.9 grams heavy. SImply signed "980 TAXCO" it dates in the early 1940s and is in excellent vintage condition.

Los Castillo cuffs are amazing pieces of wearable art - the quality of the silver sheet used to make them, their balanced weight, the crisp detail in the design and the flawless execution combine to create little masterpieces. In the cuff at hand, inspiration was drawn from Mexico's rich Aztec and Maya past...

An early Los Castillo creation as is indicated by its design number this is a necklace that will astonish you with the way it feels and looks once you have it on. A classic Taxco piece with its cascading festoon links and its playful teardrop repousse dangles the design draws from Mexico's long Spanish Colonial tradition. Much heavier than the unsigned imitations that surface from time to time, the necklace wears like a dream and has a very strong visual effect...

A very early creation in the long carreer of the Los Castillo taller, this is a rather rare bracelet. Substantial and very powerful with its heavy framed panel links adorned by bigger and smaller repousse semi-spheres it betrays its direct links with Mexico's rich pre-Colombian culture. I find the the two types of clasp on this piece very interesting, with the old-type pin closure being another indication of the bracelet's early date...

Early repousse Mexican silver cuff bracelet in the style that came to be associated with Maciel, this piece is not signed at all but as you can see does not lack in craftsmanship and design strength. Representing some kind of ritual possibly associated with Malinalxochitl, the Aztec sorceress and goddess of snakes, scorpions and insects of the desert, the repousse in this piece stands proud of the stippled and oxidized background...

An early Deco Mexican silver bracelet, most probably out of Mexico City, and very much in the style that came to be associated with Matilde Poulat's designs. In fact, this is a variation of Matl's very difficult to find "Moth" design and a very well crafted piece at that. Instead of repousse the links here are cast in .900 silver making for a quite substantial piece that feels divine around the wrist...
