Though not marked, I have no doubt in my mind that the stupendous bracelet presented here is an early Mexican piece. Its workmanship, the way the thick silver has been chased and oxidized and the huge amethyst cabochon that adorns it all point in that direction. And even though vintage Mexican pieces are usually marked as such, there are the occasional examples that pop up without any hallmarks whatsoever...

Big and impressive a vintage Deco Chinese silver bracelet with meticulous filigree and bezel set amethyst nuggets. Its links are adorned with bat and floral overlays and stylized Shu characters shoot out of the middle stone in the central link. The bracelet measures a wearable 7 1/2" long and its width varies between 2 1/8" and 3/4". It weighs 69.0 grams, is signed simply "SILVER" in early, raised letters and is in excellent vintage condition.

Stunning early Mexican silver bracelet, this is one of my favorite, iconic Deco designs with a massiveness that never fails to impress me. Hand-cut out of thick silver sheet the specific example is deeply chased and oxidized to add depth and dimension to the curved links. Measuring 7" long (wearable; its inner circumference is 7 1/2" but one has to leave allowance for the big hook clasp) it is 1 1/2" wide and weighs a generous 94.2 grams...

Early Mexican silver necklace of fine grade silver in a minimalist yet visually powerful pre-Colombian motif bearing the signature of Jorge "Chato" Castillo.
Chato's jewelry doesn't come up very often and his earlier pieces, like this, are usually wrought in 980 silver. I like to call this the "Shields and Bead" motif and really love its austere elegance!
Measuring 15 3/4" long the necklace is 1 1/8" wide and weighs 40.5 grams...

Gorgeous vintage sterling silver hinged bracelet, I believe this to be a late Art Nouveau example if not a nature-inspired piece of the 1940s. Some times it is difficult to say with jewelry that is not signed since styles held on after the "official" end of an era and techniques remained constant as well. This is obviously a hand-made bracelet and it consists of two "wings" replete with scroll and foliate repousse motifs...

Beautiful Chinese Art Nouveau silver brooch in an open-backed repousse foliate design having a carved carnelian "button" bezel set at its center. The stone has interesting color variation and the carving shows a flower and a pear, I believe. Masterfully and carefully executed, this is a brooch of high quality indeed - just note that the carnelian is backed with silver and the piercing in the stone is also transferred to the backing...

Set in a rectangular raised bezel accented by twist-rope wire decoration and two repousse spheres at either side the carved coral insert adorning this ring is simply a pleasure to look at. Featuring a bird perched on a flowering branch it is richly colored and equally rich in detail. The ring is a comfortable size 6 but easily re-sizeable. Its face measures 13/16" by 11/16" (not including the spheres) and its weight is 4.9 grams...

Housing a massive green stone, which I believe is chrysoprase, the early 20th c. Chinese bracelet presented here has a vermeil finish over the silver filigree that has darkened beautifully over the years. The stone in this piece is so big and its contour so interestingly irregular that the central link holding it had to be accordingly shaped! Around it there is a profusion of stylized "Shu" characters, bats, clouds and eternity knots executed in purple and blue enamels...

Perfect for the summer a gorgeous Margot de Taxco silver and enamel necklace in white and tropical sea blue that combines both the guilloche and confetti techniques. A classic Margot, book-piece design masterfully executed as all of her enamel pieces that I have seen over the years. Measuring 16 7/8" in wearable length (total length is 17 3/8") it is 13/16" wide and weighs 84.8 grams. Fully signed with Margot's name, des...

Early repousse Mexican silver cuff bracelet in the style that came to be associated with Maciel, this piece is not signed at all but as you can see does not lack in craftsmanship and design strength. Representing some kind of ritual possibly associated with Malinalxochitl, the Aztec sorceress and goddess of snakes, scorpions and insects of the desert, the repousse in this piece stands proud of the stippled and oxidized background...

Tulips are a beloved motif in the repertoire of Mexican silversmiths and designers - whether repousse or carved out of stone, they appear in necklaces, brooches, earrings and bracelets often. Yet not in this specific form, which is rather rare - in fact, this is the only example of the specific design that I have seen. Combined with a scrolling stem, the flowers are worked in perfect repoussage and hold a semi-sphere at their other end...
