EARLY SANBORNS MEXICAN SILVER QUETZALCOATL BRACELET
Very well known for their quality holloware Sanborn's was started by two American brothers as a small drugstore in Mexico City and grew to be one of the most important department stores in the country. In 1935 Fred Davis was hired there to supervise the company's antiques and art division and might have also produced some designs for them. Figural cuffs like this one bearing an early Sanborn's signature are not found very often. This is made out of sterling and adorned with the head of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec feathered serpent god. The bracelet has an inner circumference of 6 5/8" (including a 1" opening) and is 1 1/4" wide. It weighs 42.2 grams on a jeweler's scale and is signed "SANBORNS MEXICO STERLING" bearing the three owl mark as well. It is in excellent vintage condition with absolutely no flaws, beautiful workmanship and great patina.
