J GOMEZ MEXICAN SILVER TURQUOISE FISH CLAMPER BRACELET
In emulation of Margot de Taxco's celebrated "koi fish" design a gorgeous clamper bracelet bearing the signature of J. Gomez. This seems to be an early piece by Gomez as it doesn't bear an Eagle assay mark, possibly dating in the mid- to later 1940s. The clamper consists of two opposing "wings" in the form of playful, large koi fish, each one adorned with beautifully colored turquoise cabochons. This specific design can be found with amethyst as well as in all silver but I think that turquoise is a more appropriate stone for it, its color so evocative of high summer seas. Note the masterful repousse that denotes the fish scales and tails as well as the beading to represent air bubbles in the water. The bracelet has an inside circumference of just about 7" and its width varies between 3 1/2" in the front and 1 1/8" in the back, next to the hinge. Its weight registers at 75.1 grams, it is signed with maker's name as well as "TAXCO 925" and "STERLING HECHO EN MEXICO". It has a tight, original hinge and is in excellent vintage condition.
