Possibly the hugest vintage Deco brooch you will ever see coming out of Mexico, this is an unbelievable piece not only for its monumental size but also for its marvelously, deeply carved stone rose. I believe the stone to be jasper and fell in love with its variegated, soft moss green tones as soon as I saw it. The carving is simply magnificent and it brings out the stone's natural interest. The rose is so big that it is held in place not only with four hefty prongs but is also supported at the bottom end by a generous bezel. I leave the rest of the story to the photos to tell... Measuring 5 1/8" tall (!) this piece is 3 1/2" wide (the span of the two leaves); the rose itself is 3" wide by 2 3/8" tall and carved out of a piece of jasper that is up to 5/16" thick. It weighs 82.1 grams, is marked "SILVER MEXICO" and dates in the 1930s-40s. In excellent vintage condition except for a small crack in the stone at the tip of one leaf, in the underside of the stone and almost hidden by the bezel.
