VINTAGE Hilario LOPEZ MEXICAN SILVER CLAMPER BRACELET
One of Margot de Taxco's master silversmiths Hilario Lopez was reportedly considered an expert in clamper bracelets and he obviously emulated many of Margot's designs, which he signed with initials "HL" in the late 1970s. The clamper presented here is one of Margot's most beloved, easily recognizable creations. Perfectly crafted, with flawless repousse and beading and excellent patina, it has the quality that Hilario Lopez's pieces are known for. Careful finishing and a hinge as good as new make this a must-have addition to any collection of vintage Mexican jewelry. With an inner circumference of 6 3/4" the bracelet is just shy of 2 1/4" wide in the front, where the two wings meet, and 7/8" at its narrowest, toward the hinge. It weighs 68.7 grams and is signed with Hilario's initials "HL" as well as "925 STERLING" "TAXCO MEXICO". Though it doesn't have an Eagle assay mark, it probably dates in the 1978-1980 period, when Margot's molds became available to some of her former silversmiths after her workshop was closed in 1978. In excellent vintage condition.
