HUGE DECO CHINESE SILVER CARVED WHITE JADE BRACELET
A truly monumental early 20th c. Chinese silver bracelet, this is simply breath-taking both in proportions as well as in the craftsmanship it displays. Executed in cobalt and sea blue, as well as purple and green enamel infinity knots, bats, stylized clouds and "Shu" characters adorn the filigree frame. Yet the piece de resistance is the carved and pierced jade insert in the central link. I believe this might be mutton fat jade and it shows the Ho Ho or Heavenly Twins. Symbolizing perfect partnership and promulgating the idea that harmony is more profitable than strife, as Susan Dods beautifully puts it in her photo blog, the Twins often appeared on wedding gifts. The bracelet measures 7 1/4" laid flat but its inner circumference is about 8". Its width varies between a stunning 3" (just shy of it actually) at the central link while the "wings" go from 1 7/8" at their widest to 7/8" next to the clasp. The jade insert is 2 1/8" in diameter and the bracelet weighs 94.7 grams. It is marked "SILVER" and is in excellent vintage condition with fantastic patina as you can see in the photos, the enamels free of chips or losses (I only saw one very short, tight crack) and the jade insert simply spectacular.
