LOS BALLESTEROS MEXICAN SILVER and ALEXANDRITE BRACELET
One of the areas that the Los Ballesteros taller seems to have excelled is in the design of hinged bangle bracelets, most of them adorned with faceted, open-backed gems. This is one of their creations that combines the warmth of aged silver with the exuberance of color-changing sapphire, a known alexandrite simulant in the corundum family often used in vintage Taxco jewelry. A synthetic stone, corundum changes color under different light conditions mimicking natural alexandrite - in this case though the stone is almost burgundy in natural light, it turns a steely purple under studio lighting as you can see. The bracelet has an inner circumference of just above 6 3/4" while its width varies between 7/8" in the front and 5/8" in the back. It weighs 55.5 grams, is fully signed as shown and dates in the early to mid-1940s. In excellent vintage condition. The matching ring pictured in one of the photos already SOLD - Thank you!
