RARE DECO MEXICAN SILVER REPOUSSE TULIPS NECKLACE
Tulips are a beloved motif in the repertoire of Mexican silversmiths and designers - whether repousse or carved out of stone, they appear in necklaces, brooches, earrings and bracelets often. Yet not in this specific form, which is rather rare - in fact, this is the only example of the specific design that I have seen. Combined with a scrolling stem, the flowers are worked in perfect repoussage and hold a semi-sphere at their other end. The necklace measures 19 5/8" long (wearable 19 1/8") with the dangling tulips part being 5 7/8" long by 1 5/8" wide; at the chain the width is 1/2". Weighing 60.2 grams it is simply signed "STERLING MEXICO", dates in the 1930s-40s and is in excellent vintage condition with fantastic patina.
