One Good Eye Silver

|Based on a design by the eccentrically creative Hubert Harmon, a vintage brass repousse cuff bracelet, all hand-wrought with excellent patina and an endearing figural design. I believe the two intertwining sea creatures might have been inspired by some Mexican piece of folk art (Harmon's famous mermaids design was created after an escutcheon in one of Taxco's old mansions that Spratling rennovated in 1928). Though one of them has scales in my eyes they resemble the early 19th c. stylized dolphins of the Federal period. The cuff has an inner circumference of just about 6 3/4" (including the 1 3/16" gap; relatively adjustable) and it's 2 1/2" wide. It is simply signed "MEXICO" yet it might even be a Casa Maya piece - the taller is known for not always being meticulous in marking all pieces in a parure. It dates in or around the 1950s and is in excellent vintage condition.|
