I am fascinated by the beauty and craftsmanship of early 20th c. Chinese jewelry - their repousse is outstanding, the detail and complexity of the figural pieces difficult to put to words and the window they open onto a culture so distant and enchanting literally invaluable. The scene that covers the face of all 7 curved links in this bracelet constitutes a proud statement of wealth, accomplishment and family pride. Could this be an affluent merchant couple? Is the balcony facing the sea? Whatever the story behind it, this is a beautifully made piece, worthy of any good Chinese silver jewelry collection. The bracelet measures just shy of 7" long (wearable) by 1 7/16" wide. It weighs 35.8 grams and is hallmarked with early raised letters "CHINA" and "SILVER"; it also bears an additional mark that I believe is either a maker's or a workshop signature. In excellent vintage condition with warmly glowing patina.
