|Not much is known about Gerardo Lopez yet his jewelry bespeaks the man's talent, exceptional craftsmanship and the pride he must have taken in his creations. I wrote in my description of the 980 pectoral necklace that is also available in my inventory (please look for Troc item no 1188446) that I suspect he must have had some association with either the Los Castillo or Margot de Taxco talleres; maybe even with both. Be that as it may, Lopez's repousse is among the best that came out of Taxco in its golden years. The dramatic sculpturality of the necklace here is only matched by the bracelet of the same design that I am also presenting tonight. Very pronounced, with the warm patina that mellows well-loved silver over time, it consists of semi-spheres and scroll elements coming together in a motif reminiscent of a fleur-de-lis yet more "fleshy" and earthy. Measuring just above 15 1/2" in wearable length (actual length is approx. 15 3/4" but there is the hook of the clasp to allow for) the necklace is 15/16" wide and weighs 68.5 grams. It is signed with Lopez's name as well as "STERLING 925 TAXCO", "HECHO EN MEXICO" and bears Eagle 23 assay mark. It dates in the 1950s-60s and is in excellent vintage condition.|
