One of the most accomplished Taxco maestros, Miguel Melendez ranks high among my favorite mod designers, his creations successfully combining minimalist motifs with exceptional craftsmanship and gorgeous, faceted gems. The hinged bracelet at hand is adorned with three prong-set amethysts, the stems upon which they rest rising above stylized sterling leaves. I have had a demi comprised of a cuff and matching necklace with acqua stones in this design before and I love it for its abstraction and the easy, uninterrupted flow of its lines. With an inner circumference of 6 1/2" (clasped) the bracelet has a width that varies between 1 1/8" in the front and 3/8" at its narrowest. It weighs 62.4 grams and is fully signed with Miguel's initial "m" in script above "TAXCO" as well as "MADE IN MEXICO STERLING" and Eagle 3 assay mark. Dating in the 1950s and in excellent vintage condition with great patina and the added security of a safety chain.
